Features of PCTeX's editor

  • Configure document style options (PCTeX 6 Professional only). Click on the \documentclass command and a dialog will appear that lets you configure options such as Font size, One- or two-column, and more. Use the Change class button to experiment with other document styles.
  • Configure package options (PCTeX 6 Professional only). Click on the \usepackage command to configure package options or display documentation.
  • Insert graphics (PCTeX 6 Professional only). Place the cursor where you want the graphic image to appear, then right-click and choose Insert Graphic. Choose a graphic file, resize it, check any desired options, and click OK.
  • Jump to the typeset view. Place the cursor on the text you want to find, then right-click and choose Goto Typeset DVI (or press the F8 key). Note that once in the typeset view you can press F8 to return to the corresponding point in the editor.
  • Spell check as you type. Misspelled words will appear underlined. Place the cursor over the misspelled word and right-click to see alternative spellings. Note that PCTeX supports spell checking in over 20 languages --- use Insert..Language to select a language for the document.
  • Spell check the document. Press F5 to spell check all words in the document source. The spell check dialog shows alternative spellings, and allows you to add new words to a custom dictionary.
  • Auto-complete LaTeX commands. As you type the first few characters of a LaTeX command a set of possible commands will be offered. Just pick the one you want and it will be inserted in the document source.


Features of PCTeX's built-in viewer

  • Jump to the source view. Place the cursor on the text you want to find, then right-click and choose Goto TeX Source (or press the F8 key). Note that once in the source view you can press F8 again to return to the corresponding point in the typeset viewer.
  • Display rulers. Type Ctrl-R to show rulers in the margins of the typeset view (type Ctrl-R again to remove the rulers). Right-click and choose Units to display in Inches, Centimeters, Picas, Points, and Big Points.
  • Search for text. Type Ctrl-F and enter the text to search for. Hit Enter to search for the next occurrence.
  • Copy a selection. In the toolbar click on Selection Tool. Press the left mouse button and drag a rectangle over the text to be copied. Right-click and choose Copy Selection (or press Ctrl-C). This puts an image in the Clipboard that can be pasted into another application, for example MS Word.
  • Magnify text. In the toolbar click on Magnification Tool. Move the cursor to the text to be magnified and press the left mouse button. A separate window will show the magnified text.
  • Show font information. In the toolbar click on Font Identification Tool. Move the cursor to a character and read the information in the Status bar.
